Let's see it's been quite the techincal week: I helped install and configure a ton of computer stuff for Lisa and I won a very hard fought battle with the Sasser Worm on Dellbert, Peter's laptop.
Yesterday, in the Oakland Airport, the third technical shoe dropped:
Hewey's display whacked out. I've had more than my share of roached LCDs. When a laptop's LCD goes, it's time for a new laptop. However, yesterday, Hewey's display itself seemed to be fine. When he booted up, the display was right there, but when the Windows boot sequence started, the display dimmed out to virtually black. So, it appeared as if the Windows driver spontaneously combusted.
The GCI helpdesk guys took a look at Hewey this afternoon. They hooked him up to an external monitor. When he was hooked up to the external monitor, both the external monitor and Hewey's LCD were fine. Which was very good news - I dodged the big "buy a new laptop" today bullet.
So, after much messing about, I downloaded and installed an HP display driver update. And now, Hewey is working like a champ!
