Jamie Gaines is liveblogging the NCAA tourney: "1:08 PM: I'm already starting to hate myself for some of my bracket picks."

Fundraiser for Jinni Hoggard. Suggestion: Enable donations via the web ASAP. And set up a project blog to plan and publicize the thing.

70 degrees on Sunday, snow on Thursday, must be March in the Piedmont. A pretty sorry excuse for snow to be sure, but more than we've seen in this wimpy winter.

My drive through Fisher Park was nice, though.

Is Lenny Rosenbluth the all-time MVJP (most valuable Jewish player) in the history of Tar Heel basketball? Or does that honor belong to Larry Brown?

NYT article on NY players across the tourney field ledes with a bit of history about Rosenbluth's best team: They called it the Underground Railroad. In 1952, the Manhattan-born Frank McGuire left St. John's and headed south to coach the University of North Carolina, taking a raft of the city's high school stars with him. On March 23, 1957, he led the undefeated Tar Heels and their all-New York starting five to a national title - a 54-53 triple-overtime victory over Wilt Chamberlain and the Kansas Jayhawks.

Greensboro switches off red-light cameras, following High Point. What  a mess. The state constitution says the "clear proceeds" of fines collected by counties to go public schools, and a judge ruled that includes the money paid to private contractors operating the cameras. Greensboro could owe $3 million, High Point about $1.5 million to Guilford County Schools. "We're cutting our losses," said GSO Councilman Robbie Perkins to the N&R.

Limited appeals, for-profit enforcement, questions about the safety value of the cameras...and now this.

Meanwhile the problem these cameras were supposed to solve remains unsolved. I stop at green lights when turning from Willoughby onto Pisgah Church after seeing a couple of westbound cars fly through on red.
