It would seem that Dell is very aggressive whe it comes to cutting costs...

And Microsoft makes a modest payment in California. It has been argued that California sold out to get some cash quickly. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will change their ways.

It is nice to know that companies are so completely moral and honest...

I haven't used it for more than an hour, but Tim tells me that Ragtime for OS X is a great Office replacement. It is currently in a public beta and will sell for 99 Euros in the near future. The current beta reads, but doesn't write, .doc files.

I continue to play with Apple's new Keynote presentation software and can't imagine using Power Point again at this point.

Email feedback suggests that more than a few of you are digitizing your LP records. There is the issue of pops and clicks - do you want to transfer them as is or do you want to use a filter? I tend to stay away from filters except on very bad records. If you need one and use Mac OS X, Arboretum just released a new version of Ray Gun. Give the free trial a spin.

And if you have to locate a WiFi base station a long distance from power and net outlets there is always powered Ethernet. I helped more than a few people running dc through standard cat-5 cables ... if you don't want to do it yourself, solutions like this are probably cheap and avoid large amounts of frustration.
