Purple Purpose
Overhearing a somewhat disenchanted person recently, discussing the reason why they were even alive, gave rise to my thoughts about the "purpose" of things in life. Some things such as air, water and food are rather obvious given that these are items nearly every living thing needs to sustain life. But there are a great many other things, perhaps a bit more obscure. Would anyone argue that only "physical necessities" serve a purpose? What about beauty, art, feelings and emotions? How about happiness, public service or educational enrichment? And is "purpose" only subjugated to that which happens immediately or proves itself with some sort of extreme profit? Does it require everyone to acknowledge it's usefulness or need? Is it even necessary to actually see the purpose? I don't think so. To me, purpose can come about simply by "being". A quiet day when one is stressed, a helping hand from a stranger, or someone who merely listens as you lay forth your thoughts and aspirations. We usually look for the right "tool" to accomplish some given task...a wrench to fit a nut or a key to fit a lock. Everything has a "reason", the trick is to find that reason. Perhaps all we need to do in order to understand "purpose" is to attempt to see things for what they are and not try to make them into something they are not. Sometimes a simple purple flower appears to have no real purpose...but just ask the bee!
Today's Quote:
Fortunately, in her kindness and patience, Nature has never put the fatal question as to the meaning of their lives into the mouths of most people. And where no one asks, no one needs to answer.-Carl Jung
