A Leg To Stand On
Have you ever noticed that in this world, so many people build their whole life around "one thing"? They devote almost total surrender to one person, cause or goal? Maybe it's their job, a child, a lover or some other singular aspect within their life. And while I am the first to agree that ambition, devotion and love are very worthy traits, no individual person or endeavor should be the total focus of another. Apparently, they do not realize just what they do. Building a life around one thing is so very like building a house upon one support. If that house has one and only one support, no matter how strong it may be, heaven help you if that support is somehow removed or otherwise crumbles. If you build a house with many supports, and one falters, at least you have others to assist with the additional weight. So it is with any relationship. If you have but one friend, one love or one single-minded goal, and something should happen to them, you may very likely be setting yourself up for a major calamity...one that no insurance company will dare cover. Perhaps it would be wise to "spread" the love and devotion around, just a bit. Look for addition "supports" and build a sturdy foundation for your life. Should one falter, you will then have another with which to shore it up!

If someone were to think that trees are made to support the sky, they would all seem too short.-Franz Grillparzer
