I Bleed For Berries
A full day in the garden and much was accomplished. More bulbs planted, roses picked, a thorough deep watering and finally to the blackberry patch. As I was removing the old, dead vines and twirling up the new green shoots, my mind drifted to those summers before when I would delight in the annual picking of the berries. And in doing so, my mind was not paying close enough attention to what my hands were doing...the thorn had found my finger! OUCH!!! With that, I was very quickly returned to the "here and now", withdrawing in haste to see the most crimson of color now quickly form and flow. That began me thinking about experiences and how we learn about life. A friend recently told me a tale of intrigue and secret passion, only to have been "found out" only a short while later. Now this friend has great remorse for their actions and says that they have learned the hard way, hoping for forgiveness. Sometimes I suppose it does take just such a "pricking experience" to bring one back to reality and to keep ones course on the right path. As for me, well...I suppose my "thorny experience" is yet another indication of how much "blood, sweat and tears" I pour into my own garden!
