Patriotic Palms
With the recent events in the world, can one really blame another for their patriotic excesses? You see the sights on television of exhuberant troops flying the colors of their nation triumphantly for all the world to see and although they have been told to the contrary, it still occurs now and then. You cannot deny youth such exhilaration any moreso than you can deny the fact that they are young. Everyone has some sort of inner excitement whether it be for fame, fortune or simple spirit. And while, in this case, it may send some "negative" messages to other people, I believe that this form of elation is certainly justified. War is NEVER a "good thing", in fact, everyone loses something. But the fact remains that man has always chosen to repress his fellow man and in doing so, even the world at large. Perhaps our patriotism is merely a method by which we justify those things we must do in order to live freely in this world...and isn't freedom for ALL mankind what we all pray for?
Today's Quote:
I realise that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.-Edith Cavell
