Maple Desire
After longing for something for many years, today I bought my wish...a Japanese Red Maple tree. I had often admired those which I saw on travels to the Northwest where they appear as commonly as evergreens do where I live. So with my recent birthday, someone had the idea to give me something that I really wanted. I searched and searched, from nursery to nursery looking for just that certain, perfect specimen which would call my garden home. And I did indeed find it, there in the back, with its arms outstretched...gracefully bending and bowing. After I brought it home and planted this feathery frond, I sat back and considered just how long I had waited to acquire my desire. While patience is usually is considered a great attribute of character, sometimes we wait too long. Perhaps we wait because we think something "better" will come along. Maybe we will get a better bargain...or another relationship might be better than the one offered. Sometimes we wait because we are afraid of the consequence. What if I do this and that happens? What if I can't change my mind? And sometimes we wait simply out of foolishness. There will be something better tomorrow, something new and improved. But the fact is, tomorrow is never promised to ANYONE. You should live you life to its fullest everyday, sieze the day! While caution may be an admirable quality when handling dynamite, it often allows great moments in life to slip through our fingers. I have resolved next time, not to let as many days as it takes to GROW a tree, pass by, without attempting to achieve my next desire!
