"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

[11:53:12 AM]
Every day, practically, we read about another soldier or two killed, and several wounded. We never hear about the wounded. Do any of them ever die later? How badly are they hurt?

We also never hear much about the non-combat deaths. Lots of gun shot wounds and car crashes -- suicides?

Anecdotal evidence says a lot of the soldiers who were involved in intense killing sprees -- it's likely that hundreds of Iraqi combatants were killed for each American who died -- are pretty badly shaken. Bringing them home right away would have been the right thing to do. When we do get them home, let's take care of them well -- give them love and time and counseling.

We don't want another spate of stabbed-to-death wives like when soldiers came back from Afghanistan, and we don't want another Federal Building blown up by veterans like after the previous Bush War.

But what's this about pneumonia? Two dead and a hundred sick. How does something like that happen? Do thousands of Iraqis have the same problem?

Frankly, with all the depleted uranium dust we unleashed on Iraq, anything involving lungs is very suspicious, and bronchial pneumonia is among the diseases inhalation can cause, 15 days to a year after exposure.

Given the overall military superiority of American forces, we could have decided not to use depleted uranium and cluster bombs. There are some Pentagon officials who should be starting a massive cover-up of the effects of depleted uranium. Unfortunately for them, the truth is going to come out. Saddam and the sanctions prevented any accurate accounting of the effects of the first Bush War, but at some point there is going to be a civil administration in Iraq, and it's unlikely they'll be able to prevent various non-governmental organizations from doing health studies that will prove the extent of the damage we have done to Iraqis and our own soldiers.

"The U.S. military also announced Saturday that U.S. soldiers firing in self-defense had killed a woman Friday who was standing near where attackers dropped an explosive from an overpass onto a U.S. convoy below." --AP

Wrong place, wrong time. Dead.

How many innocent bystanders are we going to kill?

A bomb going off can not be license to kill anyone in sight.

Raise your hand if you think we'd kill this many innocent bystanders if they were white.

General Sanchez: get our shit together, quick!
