News: Grizzly bears gather in Alaska --
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/09/travel/KATMAI.html
Comment: Visitors to Katmai National Park must watch a video that instructs
how to get along with the bears. The reporter says "I had been taught to
create noise as I walked, not to carry food, and to avoid eye contact, which
bears interpret as threatening."
Actually, that's the same strategy I use when riding public transportation
in the city.
News: The Detroit News editorializes in favor of patients having more
control of their health care spending --
http://www.detnews.com/2002/editorial/0206/12/a10-512631.htm
Comment: Competition always works. It's like gravity...it's a force of
nature. That's why giving us control of our health care spending will
eventually save money, because providers will compete to provide us with the
best care at the best price. The trick is to set up a system that give us
control, and forces doctors, hospitals and pharmacies to bid for our
business. I guess we need a Sam Walton (Wal Mart) of the health care
industry to shake things up.
