News: Detroit mother kills her children by leaving them in hot car while she gets her hair done -- http://www.detnews.com/2002/metro/0207/02/a01-528327.htm

Comment: Tarajee Maynor is single, unemployed, constantly in trouble with the law...what was this pathetic woman doing ever having children in the first place? And she's pregnant again!

The downside of our free society, I guess. No one took responsibility (or had the authority) to prevent this woman from having kids, kids that she was emotionally and psychologically unfit to care for. And now the kids are dead.

News: Is the FBI missing the boat on the Anthrax villain? -- http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/02/opinion/02KRIS.html

Comment: Thank you to Vanessa for highlighting this item. I get the feeling that the FBI is really good at catching bank robbers, but unless they get an informant to finger the bad guy (like in the Unabomber case) they may never solve the Anthrax case.

News: Got the ETX-125 fine tuned and now it tracks the sky like a champ.

Comment: Sky was really humid and murky last night, but within minutes I viewed 10 globulars and clusters in Ophiuchus. It is really neat to sit back and have the scope point itself. Of course, a five-inch scope doesn't have the light-gathering range of my old eight-inch Celestron. But I'm really enjoying the computer controls.
