News: Computer problems prevented the Monday and Tuesday posts from getting online until today. Be sure and scroll down and read them!

News: Scottevest is hip clothing for the gadget freak -- http://www.scottevest.com/

Comment: Dorky, but sold $3 million worth this year. I can't really think of many gadgets, other than my mobile phone, that I'd want to carry around in a special vest or jacket. Laptop on my back? I don't think so. But it sure looks like Scott is selling these things. And a very impressive Web site. He seems to cover every marketing and promotional angle.

News: I'm quoted in a Detroit News article today about the Southfield living wage ordinance -- ttp://www.detnews.com/2002/metro/0207/24/c01-544681.htm

Comment: The reporter did not use my most interesting quote (I'm sure it's just because she ran out of room) about the fact that small businesses compete against big businesses with two things: better service and/or lower prices. So, when Southfield and other cities mandate a super-high so-called "living wage", they drive away working family small business owners who can no longer compete for city contracts.

The other thing that so-called "living wages" do is put a floor on personnel costs and make it very difficult for a city to afford to privatize services. That's why "living wages" are so strongly supported by city worker unions. It prices competition out of the market.

What "living wages" do not do is help low income people, who will now have fewer jobs.
