News: HBO snags a ton of Emmy nominations, but none for The Sopranos --
http://makeashorterlink.com/?E2BB63B41
Comment: The Sopranos, which in my opinion is the best television show ever
made, is ineligible because they had no new episodes this year. HBO's "Six
Feet Under", which I haven't seen yet, got the most nominations. Guess I'll
have to TiVo a few episodes and try it out.
News: New York Times claims "Poll Finds Concerns That Bush Is Overly
Influenced by Business" --
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/18/politics/18POLL.html
Comment: The poll is structured with a lot of implied anti-business
attitudes, i.e. if you favor a policy that in some way helps big business,
you automatically hurt ordinary people. That's nonsense. It's not either-or.
A policy that encourages low interest rates and low inflation helps
business...but is also helps everyone else in the nation.
The article says "By more than two to one, the poll's respondents said the
administration was more interested in protecting the interests of large
companies than those of ordinary Americans." But buried deep in the story,
the article also says "Asked whether Mr. Bush 'cares about the needs and
problems of people like yourself,' 68 percent responded yes."
I think the media is flogging a dead horse. Why doesn't the Times do a
survey that finds that the Democrats are overly influenced by trial lawyers?
