News: New orbital measurements from NASA show that there is zero chance of
Asteroid 2002 NT7 hitting the Earth in 2019 --
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2002/26jul_nt7.htm
Comment: This article puts the hubbub into perspective. The media overplayed
the "1-in-250,000" chance of the rock smacking us.
Interestingly, I ran across a message on one of my astronomy e-mail lists
that speculated that the government "knows" that the asteroid will hit and
knows when and where it will hit, but wants to keep it secret to avoid a
panic.
Maybe we can nudge its orbit so the rock drops onto Saddam. That would save
us a war. Splat!
News: Give us a hug! Scientists identify special nerves that respond to a
loving caress:

Comment: The study is interesting, especially where they examined an
unfortunate woman who suffers from a nerve disorder that prevents her from
feeling anything below the level of her nose. She's not paralyzed -- she
literally cannot feel anything.
