News: Rain tonight may end string of hot, dry, clear days and nights.
Comment: Yes, I was out observing the stars again last night. That's seven
times in the last nine days...probably the longest stretch of observing I've
done in many years. The new scope makes it easy.
But the scope is very finicky about how it is set up. Skip a step and it
just doesn't want to cooperate. For some reason (perhaps related to the fact
that I updated the software yesterday) the scope last night refused to let
itself be oriented to the North Star, and thus would not point and track. I
finally had to do a complete reset on the computer and re-train the drives,
and it finally started working.
News: eBay to purchase PayPal --
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A38169-2002Jul8.html
Comment: I remember signing up for PayPal and getting paid $5 to do it. What
a sweet deal, to get free money.
eBay seems to be consolidating their stranglehold on Internet auctions.
Actually, it looks like about half of listed sales now use the Buy It Now
option, which is really convenient if you want something like, say,
rechargeable batteries. They are not that expensive to begin with and not
worth messing around trying to wait for an auction to end.
News: Jennifer and I watched "Mulholland Drive" on DVD this weekend:

Comment: A very strange movie but at least creative and interesting. I think
we figured out what was going on. To me, it's worth watching just for the
music and atmosphere.
