As I mentioned earlier this week, I was at the most marvelous going away party for Jean Marc of Sack's on Labor Day.

Segue: (Segue? I wish Radio had a spell checker) - Anyhoo, why is it that all the really great parties are going away parties? Alaska, in particular, seems to have a preponderence of going away parties. Not many people grow up up here. Instead, they come up intending to stay a year or two and end up staying for ten or fifteen. But eventually, it seems as if most of them leave. It can be really hard - over the years, one's good friends keep leaving (I try not to take it personally). However, I have to say that I've toughened up. It doesn't hurt as badly as it used to. Besides, lots of them come back.

So back to Jean Marc's party. It was a fabulous eclectic gathering - I just love Anchorage - we have such interesting people. Here are a few pics:

Jean Marc surprising the crowd by announcing that he Kathleen just got married!!!

Two of Anchorage's primo restaurant proprieters chatting it up:
JoAnn of Sacks and Van of The Marx Brothers.
They must be swapping recipes

Check out these shoes - certainly practical for those Alaska winters:

During my blogging hiatus, the fireweed topped out, the temperature has dropped, and it is now dark at 9:30 PM when I crawl into the hot tub. It is so odd to think that just two months ago, I was admiring the view while hot tubbing at 10:30 PM in the blazing sun. Fall is definitely here. Now all we need is termination dust.
