Tonight's "Jean Marc Going Away" wine was a good one: a Grand Cru 1998 Chateau Troplong Mondot St. Emilion. Very good - a St. Emilion is basically a Merlot so it was a very soft wine that needed a little time to open up. There was a strong prune or fig mid-palate (almost finish) flavor. The Ski Boy scores another great wine as a result of his legendary legal work!

Tonight was Jean Marc's last night at Sack's before he and Kathleen move to Astoria, Oregon (where it rains 10 inches each and every day Jean Marc!!!!!!).

The bar was packed with many of Jean Marc's favorite customers who were also wishing him bon chance and adieu.

As I said in an earlier posting, one of the hazards of Alaska living is constantly saying good bye to old friends as they head back South. It's tough. But yet it's also a kind of celebration. One does make very close friends here. The bonds are strong.
