Peter is very excited - we had a little downy woodpecker at one of our suet feeders this morning. In the birding world, a downy woodpecker sighting is pretty commonplace. But Peter is new to bird feeding so he's pretty psyched.

Oh boy Oh boy! The season's first termination dust!!!!
Termination Dust is an Alaskan phrase for the year's first dusting of snow in the mountains. "Dust" because it is ususally a powdered sugar-like dusting. "Termination" because the dusting signals the "termination" of summer.
I'm always very excited when termination dust appears - I am definitely in the minority.
