Words from the wiseAnne beautifully articulates her resolve and personal fears during this final countdown with Iraq. She writes... "Finally, as i type, i'm also worrying about my grandson Ryan, whose father waits somewhere in Kuwait with the thousands of other troops. So... while i've enjoyed some rather unique life experiences, a fleeting taste of fame, three beautiful daughters and ten remarkable grandchildren... a relatively untroubled life compared to many of you... do not for one moment assume i have no experience with adversity or loss. But how can i, as a member of the human community, demand peace and safety for my own child and not expect it for the child of a woman sitting in an Israeli cafe, shopping in a Pakistani market, or worrying frantically from within the walls of her Bagdad home?" Thank you, Anne, for that. Will you adopt me??? ::grin:: 4:09:29 PM comment []

Oscar goody bagAnita found this list posted at GirlHacker's site of the numerous gifts that will be given to Oscar presenters and nominees this year. It's quite a list! Jewelry, perfume, chocolates, spa treatments...yummy!! But what really caught my eye was this... Invitation for two to international gala premiere of Zumanity, a Cirque du Soleil show at New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Sept. 20 and a two-night stay at the hotel, priceless (no tickets are being sold to this event) I've always wanted to see the Cirque du Soleil. Pretty cool gift, yes? 3:45:20 PM comment []

Foraging aheadTuesday - Day 2 It went pretty well. I only got hungry just before dinner and ended up cooking earlier than normal to soothe the hunger pains. Typically Tuesday nights have been family night, and I've prepared huge meals of pasta, pizza or tacos. But not last night - nope! I told the kids about the diet and instructed them to bring their own food (tsk tsk...bad mom lol). For lunch I'd eaten a salad and two hard boiled eggs. I noticed the hospital cafeteria's menu included everything I wasn't allowed other than the salad bar. I may have to start making some special requests! Mid-afternoon I snacked on a small pack of peanuts which seemed to help curb my appetite the rest of the work day. I drank water all day, but I find that so difficult to do. I don't think there's any way I can drink as much water as the diet plan recommends. But at least I didn't drink a Coke or a Mountain Dew which is what I'm usually sipping on while working. Dinner included salad (again) although this time I topped it with Ranch dressing (suprisingly low carb), and two small baked chicken thighs marinated in teriyaki sauce. No dessert - no before bed brownie. I don't know about anyone else, but I get such a sweet tooth about an hour after dinner. When it hit last night, I poured myself another glass of iced tea with artificial sweetner and plenty of lemon. I tried not to dwell on the chocolate craving, and luckily I was distracted by the kids conversations and American Idol. Slept good and woke feeling rested. Day 3 - Wednesday Morning coffee and no lunch to speak of (only a cheese snack). I had jury duty today and was finally dismissed around noon. My stomach was growling in the courtroom, and I told Scott that may have been why I was dismissed - maybe one of the lawyers felt sorry for me! lol Tonight we'll have lean hamburgers sans bread and maybe I can round something up for a side dish other than (ugh-not-again) salad. Scott's doing great, too, and has really latched on to the whole idea. It's wonderful to have someone to be miserable with ::wink:: So far, I'm pleased with myself and feeling like I might actually be able to stick with it. Still looking for things to munch on, though. I soooo miss my Cheezits.... :) 1:17:57 PM comment []
