TemptationsThe tantalizing smell of hot buttered microwave popcorn is assaulting my senses while I'm trying so hard to find a list of low carb recipes online. Maybe it's time to shut the office door...or better yet, go home for the day. The scales say I've lost 5 lbs, though I find that hard to believe I'd lose that much in such a short period of time. Tonight we're planning a special dessert (the first dessert of the week). Some sugar-free jello/cream cheese concoction which at any other time would not sound so appealing - but at this point, even a hint of sweetness will be to die for!3:50:57 PM comment []

War Puts Iraq's Ancient Treasures at Risk"A U.S.-led invasion of Iraq could destroy priceless artifacts but also provide an opportunity to save antiquities looted and damaged during a decade of U.N. sanctions, a U.S. archaeologist said on Thursday."Measured against human suffering, material items seem less significant, but also under threat is an important part of the world's cultural heritage," McGuire Gibson of the University of Chicago wrote in a commentary in Friday's issue of the journal Science." (LINK) Scott and I were just talking about this the other night...I was glad to find it reported. 2:50:22 PM comment []

Body double? The transcript of "Saddam's" speech to the Iraqi people this morning. And check out the side-by-side photos of Saddam. Sure doesn't look like him to me....thanks to Momma Bear for the link. I believe I heard a low growl coming from the den. ;)2:29:01 PM comment []

Tornado season"A tornado touched down in two counties in southwestern Georgia before dawn Thursday, killing at least six people and injuring at least 25." (LINK) I heard the report early this morning. Terrible news for those residents. We had three tornado warnings issued here at home yesterday morning. Our facility immediately went into "Code Black" alert. Of course, during all the excitement I was walking across the town square wrestling my umbrella and trying to stay semi-dry as I made my way to the courthouse for jury duty. Stepped in a mud puddle and nearly ruined my shoes. My umbrella turned inside-out about halfway up the courthouse steps, and even my hairspray didn't hold up. I arrived in the courtroom resembling a drowned rat... There will be more to come. Tornado season is just now gearing up. 2:05:57 PM comment []

Dateline: KennelA much needed diversion from this war anxiety, and what great photographs! Dogs in the papers from the 50's and 60's. via...The Presurfer "As you will see, newspaper dog photography was for years the last resort of the hack and the flack, the assignment no one wanted, the crap job handed out to the guys who could barely be trusted to take off the lens cap. Put yourself in a photog’s shoes. Imagine how you’d feel when the President’s in town; you’re handed the assignment slip and see the words: Terrier had 11 puppies. Get pictures. 1:21:54 PM comment []

Live on tv - it's WARSomeone positioned the television in the maintenance shop so it faces the door to my office now. I've got the channel set to Fox and watching Baghdad being bombed. It's like instant replay. So very similar to watching the Gulf War unfold. I just hope it is over very, very quickly. Support our troops, folks, no matter where you stand politically regarding the war, those soldiers and their families deserve our respect and our united support. 1:01:49 PM comment []
