Klear Screen makes the only lcd screen cleaner I've used that works. Don't bother with the singles packs except for travel use, but try the Starter Kit or the eight oz kit.

The Apple Store carries this and is currently shipping with free two day delivery. A great gift for anyone with a flat panel display or laptop.

Here is a good reason not to use PacBell as a DSL provider.

Sharing a social security number is not a good idea.

I'm listening to the group Anonymous 4 perform the Legends of St Nicholas CD- almost perfect music for an early December Sunday morning. (iPods are wonderful things for moving about the house when you have to be quiet...)

These musicians are astonishingly good - ethereal comes to mind. Their rendition of Intonent Hodie is as good as it gets and sets the stage for the rest of the performance.

If you only buy a single CD this year you could do much worse than something from these women who have achieved something of a cult/superstar status in the world of classical music.

Powerstrips are one of those frustrating little necessities. Most of our small appliances and powerbricks live on strips so they can be easily shut off to conserve power. Unfortunately the average brick takes enough space that an unused outlet is generally covered. Nancy points out that one foot extension cords are a great way to get around this problem. The bricks now can live far enough from the strip that it is possible to have a one to one match between outlets and bricks. A bit of searching turns up some inexpensive cables (search for the power strip liberator 1 ft extension #121 2550) ... this is a great gift idea .. give ten or twenty to someone.

The musical donut of your mind!

(if that doesn't get you to look at the link, I don't know what will...)

Recently Yasumasa Kanada of the University of Tokyo calculated Pi to a trillion digits using about 600 hours of the Hitachi SR8000 (which looks like a computer!). The statistical distribution of the digits are of interest and Kanada has posed some preliminary results.

Background information on the normality of Pi can be found in an old Science News article. It is amazing that a simple formula exists to calculate an isolated digit of Pi - in bases 2 and 16. There are more than a few interesting references.
