Every piece of consumer research I've read suggests that nickel and diming consumers is stupid if you are interested in long term loyality.

Perhaps tracking this sort of practice is a good investment tool for identifying companies with short term thinking and weak business models.

Human powered vehicles are fascinating and I find trikes particularly interesting. These are low production items and good examples usually start at $3000 and quickly climb from there. Some of the higher end models are works of art.

Catrike is about to introduce a new model that is getting great reviews and cuts a thousand bucks from the normal price. It is unfortunate that human powered vehicles have to share space with cars and trucks as they make great sense from an ecological and health point of

The other day some very unusual singing was discussed leading to a deeper discussion of Tuvan throat singing It turns out that many cultures have developed this form of vocalization, but the Tuvan stuff seems to be the flashiest (and the magic of Feynman's name adds a bit too!).

Last year Lorraine was visiting and gave it a try. It turns out she was able to do credible two and three note singing after a few minutes. Of course being a very experienced singer helps. I've been trying for years without luck. She also picked up our Didgeridoo and just started playing. Sigh ... these natural musicians...

I've been listening to a bit of the Sirius satellite radio programming lately. The concept solves some of the physical problems of FM radio, but I worry that the programming is too limited to be interesting. It is probably better than FM stations from most parts of the country, but it isn't up to what is available in the NYC metro area.

I'm also more interested in capturing streams from the web and feeding them into my iPod for later playing on the road -along with the several days of my own music that I carry on the device.

One has to wonder if satellite radio is a great idea for displacing radio, but alternative technologies .. net and home library augmented storage devices .. are better solutions for many of us.
