A Call from My Past
In 1998 I moved to Boise, Idaho to become the CIO for American Direct Credit. Within a year the company was out of business and the assets were purchased by Capital One.
Cap One opened a new call center in Idaho and employed most of us. It didn't work out for me. I hated hustling credit cards for High School students and non-bankrupt delinquents. So I went on to better things, moved back to Utah and only occasionally think about ADC.
Yesterday I got a call from an attorney representing ADC. It seems that I'm still listed as a member of ADC, LLC. There is no record of my legal separation. So the attorney called to inform me that I would be receiving a check for my shares.
She was quick to add that it will not be a big check. It will be a small check. By cashing this check I will be relinquishing all claims to my shares in ADC. It makes me wonder. I was sold on the ADC move because those shares represented 2% of what should be a $1 Billion corporation by now. At least that was the promise.
When I receive the check I may cash it. Then again, I may have it framed. It depends on its value. After all, it was supposed to be worth millions. Now that check will be the only tangible reminder of my stint as a CIO. Oh, the decisions I have to make.
On the other hand, what if for some reason my shares have now become valuable. And the managers have found a mistake that entitles me to those millions. Oh, to dream..........
