A Friend's Suicide

Today was a great day for driving.  I journeyed from Wausau, WI to Duluth, MN and then to Milwaukee, WI.

I spoke briefly with my wife during the day and a friend she used to work with in the elderly health care field (who I had met a few times) committed suicide this week.  Rather shocking considering that the friend wasn't someone you'd think would do that.  However, she had lost her husband in the past year to an illness and that probably factored heavily in her decision to end her life.  As tragic as suicide is, it is the ultimate in selfishness.  A person would rather snuff out their God-given talents and giftedness than use them to serve humanity.  People who are thinking seriously about suicide don't realize that they can make a difference in the world.  Granted, at times, there are a lot of converging thoughts/circumstances that trigger a person's desire to end it all.  However, the darkness of their thinking is clouding the fact that they are significant to people around them--they just don't realize how much.  Hey, you and I impact people either positively or negatively everyday.  Let's make sure we are influencing people in a positive way.  You just never know how much an upbeat mood/comment--even a smile--can affect one's day, one's week, and even one's life.

Back at the warehouse, I did the obligatory clean-the-bug-gunk off the windshield (had to do it again after cleaning the windshield while fueling earlier in the day) and picked up my paperwork for tomorrow's load.  I'll be going to the Minneapolis, MN area for one stop.  It looks like I won't make it home so it will be another Friday night stay at a truck stop.  That does eat into the weekend.  But I should be home early Saturday morning so that shouldn't be too bad.  If this becomes a reoccurring pattern, I'll have to evaluate if I want to have my weekends continuously broken up like that.  Who knows, I may be able to make it there and back in 11-hours.  In fact, now that I think about it, I may be able to make the trip in 11-hours since the stop is on the near side of Minneapolis.  Tune in tomorrow to see if I make it or not!

miles driven = 638
