Mr. C (day dispatch) called me before I could call him. They have a load going down to Chicago, IL and then one going to Eau Claire, WI.
I grabbed the Chicago load and got there two-hours early. They couldn't take me right away but they did take me before my official appointment time. That enabled me to get another load assignment further (in miles) beyond Eau Claire going to the Minneapolis, MN area.
So after unloading in Chicago, I high-tailed it back to Milwaukee, WI. At the warehouse, I dropped the empty trailer, hooked onto the loaded trailer, and started towards Minneapolis.
Today was one of those weird temperature days where the further I went north of Chicago and Milwaukee, the warmer it got. Tomorrow will be chilly. Rain (and even snow!) are expected in some areas of Wisconsin. Oh well, in Wisconsin, there are two seasons--Winter and Road Construction! (grin) At a truck stop, I caught a glimpse of the weather map. This front that is in the process of passing through stretches from Canada all the way down to the southern coast!
Oh yeah, I picked up a nylon load handler device before I left today. It is used to keep loose freight in the back of the trailer from zipping to the nose of the trailer should I need to stop suddenly. Well I thought I knew how to make one of these things work. But I couldn't and didn't get it to work. So I attached it to the wall very loose since I couldn't get the slack out. Two other guys along the route today also tried to get it to work but could not. Finally, Mr. J (day dispatch) showed me how it should work. I'll have to give it a try tomorrow--hopefully I'll remember what he showed me!
