It turns out that I was able to pick up the rail-container trailer early today. The ride to Milwaukee, WI to Madison, WI, and to Chicago, IL was pleasant driving weather--sunny and mild.
In Chicago, I drove to the first of 2-new rail road yards that I haven't been in before. After being checked-in and given a printed ticket from a portable device the guard carried, I dropped my trailer and then I was on to the next rail road yard a short distance away to pick up my container to take back to Oconomowoc, WI.
At the second rail road yard, I was told where the container was parked, hooked up to it, and then was checked out in the same way as the first yard. I'm very impressed with the system they have at these two rail yards. The other rail yard I was at a few weeks ago wasn't as slick.
I managed to miss rush hour in Chicago! If the trailer in Madison would have been available for pickup after 12:00 PM, I would have hit rush hour in Chicago there and back.
I had to say "no" to the preplan load assignment for tomorrow. I didn't have enough hours to make it to the appointment early tomorrow morning. So, I'm without a load assignment and will most likely get one tomorrow morning since I won't be able to start my day until 4:30 AM.
