Today's drive towards Minneapolis, MN and back to Milwaukee, WI was beautiful--sunny and pleasant.
On the way up I saw 3 young does running in single file along a fence-line on the freeway. They seemed to be having a good time the way they leapt and ran. It almost seemed like they wanted to race with the traffic--or at least try to keep up with the speed of their mechanical rivals of the road. On the way back, I noticed a father and his younger daughter kayaking on a river near Mauston, WI. Seems both humans and animals are enjoying the warmer weather now that Spring has arrived.
It turns out I was able to make it make in one day with around 15-minutes to spare. Now I know about how far North and West I can go in the Minneapolis area if I want to return home in one day.
Dispatch gave me two load assignments for Monday morning. I accepted one. Later, they took it away and said I was again an extra for the day. I'm sure they've got good reasons for doing so, but it would be nice to know where I'm going Monday morning by Friday evening. In fact, if assigning loads is so nebulous, why even do so in the first place? I know they need to see if a driver is willing and able to handle a load assignment for a given time period. That way they can make sure loads are delivered on time. However, if they take the load assignment back (and make a habit of it), then why even pre-plan drivers in the first place? This is one area the company needs improvement in.
