I'm staying at Keystone Lodge which happens to be the place where I last saw my Dad alive. He came up to see me when I was here for the annual summer conference two years ago. Two months later, he died.

Last year, when I was back here for the summer conference, I was very aware that this was the last place I'd seen Dad. But this year, I'd sort of forgotten about it - at least emotionally. Intellectually, I remembered, but not emotionally.

Well, until this evening when I took a walk around the lake after dark. I passed by a bench surrounded by flowers overlooking the lake where Dad and I had sat during his last afternoon here. My heart just stopped when I saw that bench.

The altitude here at Keystone is about 9500 feet. That's some pretty thin air. Fortunately, I'm doing pretty well - no headaches, nausea, etc. My chest feels like it has a mild to moderate case of bronchitis but nothing hideous. Way better than my first conference here two years ago when I had a non-stop headache and wanted to barf all the time.

So, I think my new approach to altitude acclimation is working - basically spend a few days at Denver, then spend an afternoon hiking between 7,000 and 12,000 feet. After that 10,000 feet doesn't seem so bad!

Well, here I am at yet another techie conference, The Cable Labs Summer Conference. And as with all the other technical conferences I've attended, the male to female ratio is pretty amazing: 1 woman for every 20 men. Pretty amazing.

So, when I dropped Barney off at the Loveland Geocache, I picked up another travel bug - The Big Flush. The Big Flush's goal is, "To travel from cache to cache, and travel the world and see as many of the fancy restrooms as possible."

Is this a job for the Slat Rat or what? The Big Flush will definitely visit many of the potties made famous in the Bathrooms I Have Visited section of my blog.

And here's a picture of Flush. Definitely not as photogenic as Barney.

While driving up to Keystone on Sunday, I was passed by a cherry white Jaguar with the following totally great license plate:
