On Thursday, I flew home to Anchorage from Colorado. As with most travel days to Anchorage, it was a long travel day - basically twelve hours from time I pulled out of Keystone to the time I landed in Anchorage.
The last leg of my trip was a three and a half hour flight from Portland to Anchorage. The flight was absolutely packed - sardine city. Fortunately, I had a highly coveted aisle seat. I got all settled and then the individual who had the middle seat showed up - he was a big guy. Not overweight - more like a linebacker type. Anyhoo, he managed to fit himself in the middle seat. But, he looked like a giant dodo bird sitting on a canary perch. It was painful to observe.
So, I tapped him on the shoulder and asked if he'd like to swap seats. He looked at me like I was nuts - I assured him I was serious. He incredulously, but gratefully accepted my offer and we swapped. I'm not that big so the middle seat is not as hideous for me as it for others. I was fine and the big guy was way more comfy.
So, I figure that in the grand scheme of things, my good samaritan deed has to be worth huge points! Maybe it will move me up from the seventh level of Hell to the sixth level.
