Defending America
Here's a great piece on Defending America by British writer and political candidate Benedict Rogers. (Hat tip: Right Wing Conspirator.) "Americans are the friendliest people you will encounter, but they have few friends," writes Dinesh D'Souza in his best-selling book What's So Great About America. There's a lot of ... Denying facts in favor of suspicions
Denying facts in favor of suspicionsOne of the most annoying things about arguing with Democrats is that they simply refuse to argue honestly- whether it be denying facts in favor of suspicions, leveling ad hominems in lieu of facts, or, as is the case with this Calpundit post, comparing things that just aren't the same. Today, Kevin notes this news story, which he came to by way of the 'Crockmeister':

Rites Practices & Legends #5: BX & Commissary Privileges
The main attraction of these privileges--- access to the military base Commissary and Exchange--- lies mostly in the fact that such access is forbidden to civilians, and so they tend to think of them as vast Aladdin’s caves of riches and materiel things, to which they do not have the magic key! Alas, while I am fairly sure that the gold-plated bases in the military pantheon probably are pretty well stocked with the luxury goods, and may very well resemble Aladdin’s cave, at the ordinary level they are as Cpl. Blondie observed “full of stuff you don’t need”. [Sgt. Stryker's Daily Briefing]

Disgusted By Kerry
i'm so disgusted by John Kerry. Four years ago i never would have believed that the Democrats could produce a candidate with less character than Al Gore. But John Kerry makes Gore Look like George Washington. i truly believe Kerry...
Now the media needs to call him on it. What's the evidence for 'crooked,' for 'lying?' What's he mean, and in detail. You don't get to walk away from such outrageous charges with a laugh and a wave. Kerry was a defender of Clinton, recall, a president demonstrated to be a liar and crooked. . . . But Bush-Cheney are worse than Clinton in Kerry's world. The president let slip once in 2000 what he thought of New York Times' reporter Adam Clymer, and the world collapsed on him. Kerry's charge is so much more serious that it defies comparison. I crack on the Canadians a lot because it's funny, and I've made a number of mad cow jokes at their expense. But I would be thrilled to eat a piece of mad cow-infected Canadian beef if this was the alternative.

Fargo makes the Big Time!
Gets noticed by the LA Times. Thanks Ben
When I was a small boy growing up on the North Dakota Prairie (50's and 60's), I thought Fargo was the center of the universe. It was the biggest city I had ever seen and I was so happy that most of our relatives lived there giving us an excuse to visit a lot. I thought it was very cosmopolitan having nothing to compare to. They actually had buildings that were more then two stories high. The tallest thing in my hometown was the grain elevator sometimes refered to as the "Skyscrapers of the Prairie".
I graduated and moved to LA where I quickly found out that Fargo and North Dakota in general were considered to be the end of the world instead of the center. I've gotten use to all the jokes and sneering remarks over the years. Now that I have seen just about every place there is to see in the world I realize that those so called hicks in North Dakota have a very big well kept secret that becomes more and more valuable every day as the rest of the overpopulated world rushes forward at breakneck speed.
Yes - it's a secret that I now know but you will never get it out of me. Those people who live there deserve to enjoy that secret in peace. I just hope the rest of the restless world never figures it out! CP

The Heinz Boy Goes IHOPping
Kerry's foreign policy team has spent the past six months bad-mouthing, poo-pooing, and tut-tutting the efforts of the United States military and diplomacy in the liberation of Iraq.
His campaign has released more than 15 policy papers criticizing the Bush administration's Iraqi reconstruction efforts. All of these papers, one could assume, were the result of careful research and knowledgeable insight.
Yet on March 7, Kerry pulled out his spatula. He announced that in order for his policy team to understand what was going on in Iraq, he would send his advisers over there to get the straight dope.

Florida Myth Refuted...Again
Just because you say something often enough, or loud enough, that doesn't make it true. Peter Kirsanow takes on the scurrilous charge that Florida voters were disenfranchised in the 2000 election:
There's absolutely no evidence that a single person was intimidated, harassed, or prevented from voting by Florida law enforcement. Despite claims of rampant police intimidation and harassment, the only evidence of law-enforcement "misconduct" consisted of just two witnesses who described their perceptions regarding the actions of the Florida Highway Patrol. One of these witnesses testified that he thought it was "unusual" to see an empty patrol car parked outside a polling place. There was no evidence that sight of the vehicle somehow intimidated the witness or any other voters from casting ballots. There was no evidence that the erstwhile occupant of the vehicle harassed voters. There was no evidence that the empty vehicle was there for the purpose of somehow disenfranchising anyone assigned to vote at that location. [Wizblog]
