Spain
The people of Spain marched in the streets on Friday. Then they crawled on their knees into their voting booths...
On September 30, 1938 after returning from Germany, Neville chamberlain said the following:
"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time...

Kerry refuses to substantiate allegations of support from foreign leaders
The town meeting was contentious at times, with 52-year-old Cedric Brown repeatedly pressing the candidate to name the foreign leaders whom Kerry has said are backing his campaign.
"I'm not going to betray a private conversation with anybody," Kerry said. As the crowd of several hundred people began to mutter and boo, Kerry said, "That's none of your business."
Two problems with that, Mr. Kerry:
- You brought it up.
- You said "bring it on".

Appeasement In Our Time
In 1938 the free world tried appeasing another violent ideology and paid the consequences when war broke out anyway. It will be no different this time around. Instead of being satisfied, al Qaeda will be emboldened to increase their demands, just as Adolf Hitler went from demanding a section of Czechoslovakia to demanding the entire country. The people of Spain should not delude themselves. They have not bought off the terrorists. Instead they have encouraged the terrorists to step up their campaign of violence in order to "reclaim" formerly Islamic territories in the Iberian peninsula.
As Spain is a target, so are the Balkans. We can expect to see campaigns of violence in Bosnia, Greece, Bulgaria, Rumania, Serbia and Albania until those countries submit to Islamic rule. Lest France and Germany think they are immune, the terrorists will strike there until governments that support the terrorists are in place.
The people of Spain who voted to surrender have made a poor choice. The person they elected to lead Spain is making a mistake in withdrawing troops from Iraq, effectively abandoning the people of Iraq in their hour of need. The people of Spain may believe that they have achieved appeasement in their time, but they have merely made a deal with the devil, in the vain hope that the devil comes for them last.

When I was growing up the older people were always saying that the Second World War was not the end and it would happen again. I think they truly believed that because they had been around to see WWI and then the build up to WWII. They were right. CP

Community and Terrorism
I don't talk much about terrorism, Al-Qaeda, or Iraq on this blog. I'm one of those bloggers that isn't well-versed on terrorism. I have a reaction to terrorist acts but there are many other bloggers who talk about terrorism daily and I rather comment on those blogs. But the recent bombings in Spain got me thinking about the world we live in. All of us on the same planet but many of us are worlds apart. Former fellow gang-member (and good friend) Rico called me today. We talked about sports, life in general, and other stuff. Then he brought up the terrorist acts in Spain. Here is some of our conversation (paraphrasing slightly): [The S-Train Canvass]
I have spent 40 hours a week for the last 17 years with people like S-Train. Well - actually not like him because he has seen the light and got on with life and the guys I work with have not figured out the program yet. Lets just say if I knew how to write I could write a thick book on the gangster mentality.
He's right about one thing. Bullies and terrorists only understand one thing and that is strength. They feed and grow stronger on weakness. The minute you stand up to them and let them know that further intimidation will not be tolerated they will leave you and seek out others who can be intimidated. If they hit you and you hit back they will find someone who won't hit back. They can only feel powerful if you are weak. You can't feel powerful if you are lying on the ground.
At the same time they have no respect for weaklings. They will use and abuse you but never respect you. They will move on to test the resolve of the next person.
The bullies of this world will now move on to test the strength of their next victim. Unfortunatly for Europe I fear there are no more Churchills but plenty of Chamberlains. CP

Just get done watching the network news or reading the newspaper and need to get rid of that feeling you want to rip someones head off. C&S provides us with some light distraction till the feeling passes.

And America gets ready to hate him back
Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" won the Oscar for best documentary. Unfortunately, it is not a documentary, by the Academy's own definition.
The injustice here is not so much to the viewer, as to the independent producers of real documentaries. These struggle in a field which receives but a fraction of the recognition and financing of the "entertainment industry." They are protected by Academy rules limiting the documentary competition to nonfiction.
Bowling is fiction. It makes its points by deceiving and by misleading the viewer. Statements are made which are false. Moore leads the reader to draw inferences which he must have known were wrong. Indeed, even speeches shown on screen are heavily edited, so that sentences are assembled in the speaker's voice, but which were not sentences he uttered. Bowling uses deception as its primary tool of persuasion and effect. [Curmudgeonly & Skeptical]
Moore should move to Europe. They would worship him as a God there! CP
