Throwbacks

Sometimes you see something that makes you stop dead in your tracks. There's this car in the parking area near the condo...it's shocking enough for me to see this car still on the road...it's even more shocking when you see it in its entirety. (Yes, this means click on the image for more.) There are just some things that you don't expect to see after their expiration date. I think the vehicle and the bumper sticker both qualify. Horrible Tidings

...the Spanish election Sunday will carry a significance that will transcend the borders of Spain, and which could make it one of the most decisive elections in the short history of modern democracy. For if the Spanish people vote against Aznar's party, then it will appear to the terrorists that they have succeeded in manipulating the domestic policy of an independent nation through an act of catastrophic terror. They will have succeeded in making a nation change its mind about who is to lead them -- and that would be a setback from which our world might never recover.  [American RealPolitik]

Lurch gets caught in a lie....

Via the Miami Herald John Kerry had just pumped up a huge crowd in downtown West Palm Beach, promising to make the state a battleground for his quest to oust President Bush, when a local television journalist posed the question... [democrats give conservatives indigestion]

Another Bombing!   And the peace process takes another hit.

Quote of the day

"Peace Process?  There is only one peace process that works and it comes from the belly of a B-1 or B-2.  Until we are willing to use the tools we have there will be no peace in a thousand years."

Rolling Over for Allah

Well, we should have seen this coming.

Voters ousted Spain's ruling party in elections Sunday, with many saying they were shaken by bombings in Madrid and furious with the government for backing the Iraq war and making their country a target for al-Qaida. The Socialist Party declared victory with 79 percent of the votes counted, as results showed it winning 164 seats in... [Right-Thinking from the Left Coast]

When Life Imitates Spaceballs

From Spaceballs: Dark Helmet: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. Lone Starr: What's that make us? Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing.

Anyone who wants to understand why the media are held in such low regard by the public -- in polls of the most respected professions we usually come somewhere between Nigerian e-mail scammers and serial pedophiles -- should consider the following headline from an Associated Press story in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer last week:

End of the world update

Government in Action

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (AP) - City officials were so concerned about the potentially dangerous properties of dihydrogen monoxide that they considered banning foam cups after they learned the chemical was used in their production.  Then they learned that dihydrogen monoxide - H2O for short - is the scientific term for water.   [American RealPolitik]

"I will not retaliate, despite Mr. Bush's attacks, until I can assemble a true, multinational coalition under the leadership of Secretary-General Kofi Annan," said Mr. Kerry.  [Scrappleface]
