After a somewhat restful sleep, I woke up to tackle the day. I say somewhat restful because the QualCOMM (Q) messaging unit kept going off periodically (with it's infernal loud BEEP). In today's technology-advanced society, one would think that companies could make the Q quiet on a driver's 10-hour break. After all, isn't safety one of the biggest concerns out there?! Ask yourself: would you want to be driving down the road next to a driver hauling 70,000+ pounds who was awakened numerous times during his 10-hour break by an annoying Q beep? I don't know about you, but I call that one big fat safety hazard! But I digress....
I picked a load at the warehouse in Lansing, MI and started out toward my delivery location in Bolingbrook, IL. Traffic was a bit more pronounced as it was Friday evening--a hectic, pel-mel travel day where families get to where they want to be so that they can enjoy the full benefits of the holiday weekend. I was surprised that traffic through Chicago wasn't too bad at all--even coming back on I-94 South to meet I-80 East (where I got caught up in a traffic jam 2-days ago).
I saw some fireworks in the distance as I went through Chicago (if I go there this evening, I'll probably get a good view of the lakefront fireworks!).
The drive back went without incident and I arrived back in Lansing in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It looks like I'll be staying here to help out this Dedicated account through Saturday and into Sunday. Hopefully I'll take a one-way trip to Indiana/Illinois so that I can head home from there. I'm already pre-planned for Tuesday morning, so I'll have a day-and-one-half to hang out with the family, celebrate our country's freedom celebration, and readjust my sleep schedule before Tuesday's early morning trip.
