Upon refiguring how many hours I have left to get home before my 70-hours of weekly driving (and on duty time) expires, I discovered that I have just under 8-hours remaining before I'd have to do a 34-hour reset. However which way I slice it, I will not get home in time to do a 34-hour reset and meet my Tuesday morning delivery schedule. Rats. So I notified my Milwaukee, WI dispatcher about the situation. Oh well, I may end up having all day Tuesday off--that would great since I haven't seen the family for a week.
So, the warehouse here in Lansing, MI is seeing if they can give me a one-way load to Illinois or Indiana so that I'll be home before running out of hours. If not, then I'll be bobtailing home and should be home just after midnight (if not sooner!).
miles driven = 549
PostScript: I received a one-way trip to Bolingbrook, IL. From there, I picked up an empty trailer and dropped it off at the downtown Chicago yard. Then, I headed home! As the Chicago skyline came into view on I-55 North (just before intersecting I-94), I witnessed the last minute of the Chicago lakefront fireworks. Deja-vu! This was the 2nd night in a row I caught the finale of the lakefront fireworks! Traffic was pulling over to the shoulder and stopping to watch the finale (it was that good!). I, being the professional driver I am, managed to watch the fireworks, avoid the cars slowing/stopping on the shoulder, and continue driving all at the same time (grin).
As usual, traffic was nuts through Chicago. However, I managed to miss the brunt of the traffic exiting the fireworks extravaganza and actually made better time than I thought possible going to the toll-road. It was neat to see the various neighborhoods shooting off their fireworks as I passed by. Traffic southbound from Wisconsin heading into Illinois was fairly heavy. Since there was no Milwaukee Brewers / Chicago Cubs game in Milwaukee, the explanation had to be that everyone was heading home from their holiday weekend in Wisconsin (the forecast called for rain on Monday--so everybody evidentially decided to head home Sunday evening).
Back in Milwaukee, I caught the tail-end of the Milwaukee lakefront fireworks; most of the traffic had exited the lakefront by the time I got in the area. I dropped the tractor off at the warehouse at 11:30 PM with 15-minutes available for driving/being on-duty. That's calling it a bit too close!
