I had a relaxing time with the family on Independence Day even though the weather was rather dismal throughout the day. But we managed to get in a luncheon meal cooked on the grill (yum!) Since the local fireworks we usually make a point of attending was in jeopardy of being cancelled later in the day due to rain, we all decided to head for the movie theatre. We watched Madagascar and shared a good laugh. Later, the rain missed our area (barely) and the fireworks went on as planned. This time, instead of going there early, staking a grass spot, and waiting for the fireworks, we headed out with just enough time to park the car, walk about 5-blocks, and park our butts on the cement sidewalk (avoid wet/muddy butts on the grass) on a hill close to the actual fireworks display. We waited no more than 10-minutes before the fireworks began. Not a bad location! Next year, we may just bring some chairs and camp out near the same spot. Heck, we even beat most of the traffic exiting afterwards. I'm so glad we all got to see the fireworks. My 6-year old son had burst into tears earlier in the day when he learned that the weather might prevent us from seeing a live fireworks display. He and I (as well as my daughter) don't get to hang around one another all that much so I think he was really counting on that time for us to spend some time together. We did and it was good!
Today, I called dispatch just after 9:30 AM (the time when I could drive again if need be) and found out that they really could use me today (so much for having the day off!). I would be going to the Duluth, MN area for 2-deliveries tomorrow morning. Since I had a little time available before heading to the truck, I called my barber to see if he could squeeze me in. He couldn't--and he's going on vacation for a week. Darn--I need a haircut--guess I'll have to wait. So, rather than getting a haircut, I gave the lawn one. Then it was time go go. I dropped the kids off down the street (my wife was on a business appointment). My dad would pick them up from there and take them for a day and a night out to his place where mom and he would spoil the kids rotten. Not really--they're very good at respecting the way my wife and I desire to bring up our kids.
The ride to Duluth was partly sunny with a few scattered rain drops along the way. I arrived in the early evening, parked the truck, did some paperwork, typed on the notebook, talked to my bride, and even read a little before retiring for the evening.
