It's April 15 -- do you know where your money is? I know a lot of it gets spent on stuff I don't approve of, or just wasted. I understand that government, like any organization, metastasizes for its own benefit. And I like hanging on to my money as much as the next person. Fixes and efficiencies in the system are much welcome. But I live in a highly functional society with many high-quality public services, and I am conscious that the good fortune I enjoy did not materialize in a vacuum, so I'm not all bitter as I pay my taxes. 8:24:34 AM permalink comment [] |

NYT: "Senator Bill Frist, the majority leader, has agreed to join a handful of prominent Christian conservatives in a telecast portraying Democrats as "against people of faith" for blocking President Bush's nominees." As Josh Marshall puts it, "Frist wants to cast this, literally, as a war between the believers and the unbelievers." Do these people understand the game they are playing? This is dangerous, dangerous stuff. 8:11:48 AM permalink comment [] |
