2003 Denver Mayoral Election
The Denver Post is reporting that Dwight Henson, former homeless person, and current candidate for Mayor, received the "the loudest applause when he was introduced to 1,200 students from 12 Denver high schools." Mr. Henson still hasn't turned in the necessary 300 signatures to make the ballot. The article covers the Denver Student Voices mayoral forum held yesterday. Here's a story from the Denver Rocky Mountain News.
The Rocky has a story on ethnic politics in the Mayoral election. The article says that it's become a three-way race for the vote from the black community between Penfield Tate, Don Mares, and Ari Zavaras. Tate is black and is getting support for his sponsorship of legislation to end profiling. Zavaras has support from those voters that like the fact that he was a policeman and led the Department of Safety. Don Mares' support is coming from his grassroots efforts to get out and shake hands with voters and being visible at campaign events. I'm wondering why there seems to be little support for the women in the race?
The Denver Rocky Mountain News is also running an article about Ari Zavaras' promise to donate his pension to charity. From the story, "After inquiries by the Rocky Mountain News, Zavaras' campaign this week finished donating his pension." Oops. The Rocky has a short work history for Zavaras here.
