Internet == The World of Ends

David Weinbeger and Doc Searls have posted a manifesto about the Internet as a world of ends. They try to take a common sense view of the Internet and explain it to the rest of us. Their thoughts should be required reading for Internet junkies, businesses that want to leverage the public network, and governments that want to control it.

A small sample, "The government types who have confused the value of the Internet with the value of its contents could realize that in tinkering with the Internet's core, they're actually driving down its value. In fact, they maybe could see that having a system that transports all bits equally, without government or industry censorship, is the single most powerful force for democracy and open markets in history."

2003 Denver Municipal Election

Patricia Calhoun examines the polling accompanying this year's election in her column in Westword. Says Calhoun, "Those political hot-potato push polls, which push would-be voters away from one candidate and toward another, will come later." Floyd Ciruli is quoted as saying, "This race is so damn boring, I wonder if any poll is going to tell the candidates to try passion." Heh.

DenverGov is highlighting their airing of candidate introductions here. They plan to let each candidate have two minutes of air time to talk about themselves and their campaign issues. I'm worried that the link will go stale so here is the text of the article:

"Candidate Introductions

See and hear who is running in the 2003 Municipal Election. Denver 8 TV will air exclusive candidate introductions beginning in March.

For these segments, each candidate will have two minutes to present information about themselves and their campaigns. The segments will air daily at 8:05 a.m., 7:05 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Visit the Denver Decides Web site for the transcripts of these introductions."

2003 Denver Mayoral Election

John Hickenlooper's proposed budget initiative is the subject of this article from the Denver Rocky Mountain News.

Dirty tricks and politics often go hand in hand. The Denver Rocky Mountain News has an article about an e-mail that has been making the rounds that smears Phil Perington. He blames it on Tim Knaus the current chair of the Democratic party.
