Contraction in the Software Industry

This article from C/NET argues that the software industry needs a shakeout and consolidation. It's already happening but they miss the point. The industry is contracting around standards. The effort required to write software that interoperates is decreasing. All large software organizations are learning to interoperate, even commercial companies.

Jimmy Carter on the War with Iraq

I didn't vote for Jimmy Carter in 1976 nor 1980 but I remember him as a deeply committed and intelligent president. In observing his actions since his presidency I've developed a respect for his understanding of international affairs. Here's an op-ed piece he wrote for the New York Times on the US going to war with Iraq. Says Carter, "Profound changes have been taking place in American foreign policy, reversing consistent bipartisan commitments that for more than two centuries have earned our nation greatness. These commitments have been predicated on basic religious principles, respect for international law, and alliances that resulted in wise decisions and mutual restraint. Our apparent determination to launch a war against Iraq, without international support, is a violation of these premises."

2003 Denver Municipal Election - Events 3/10-3/16

If your candidate is not listed tell 'em to get some information out.

Susan Casey, candidate for mayor, has events listed here. She still doesn't list addresses or contact phone numbers. I guess they want you to call the campaign.

John Hickenlooper, candidate for mayor, has several events listed here. I also received e-mail from the campaign that is not in sync with the website. This is confusing for the voters. We can't know if the events that aren't listed from both sources are cancelled or still on. The events showing in e-mail that do not show up on his website are below:

Tuesday, March 11, Colorado Restaurant Association Mayoral Candidate Forum, Adams Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place, 2:30 pm.

Wednesday, March 12, Latina Initiative Forum, VFW, 4747 W. Colfax, 6:00 pm.

Friday, March 14, Save our Section 8 Coalition, Tower at Speer, 1255 Galapago in Community Room, 3:30 - 4:30pm.

Don Mares, candidate for mayor, has several events listed for this week.

Elizabeth Schlosser, candidate for mayor, lists three forums on her website.

Penfield Tate, candidate for mayor, plans to attend several forums this week.

Landri Taylor, candidate for auditor, lists one event for this week, the Washington Park Auditor Forum.

Rosemary Rodriquez, candidate for City Council District 3, has her events listed here. I think her website is new and it's very well done. She has at least two links to events on the home page so it's easy to find out about her schedule. The e-mail list sign up is short and sweet. Good stuff.

Alby Segall, candidate for City Council District 5 has events listed here.

Veronica Barela, candidate for City Council District 9, has one event for the week listed on her website.

Caroline Schomp, candidate for City Council District 10, has events listed here. Of the various council candidates here website seems to be the most up to date and organized.

Jim Raughton, candidate for City Council At-Large, has three events listed here. Mr. Raughton's website is also very organized and has been redone over the last week or so. I don't like his cheesey "Viva Our Neighborhood" slogan on his yard signs though.
