2003 Denver Mayoral Election

Westword is running this story about John Hickenlooper's first television ad. I wonder if he is worried about the tone in these times?

2003 Denver Election for Auditor

The Denver Post has an article about Bill Wells' charge that $7 million in errors, detailed in an outside audit, were kept secret by the City. Wells thinks he has an issue here but the Denver Auditor's office says that the report was public information and distributed to the Mayor and City Council among others. In addition, the KPMG audit recommendations were followed and the discrepancies were reconciled. I guess Wells expects the City to issue press releases like, "Denver Makes Accounting Errors Sometimes and then We Fix Them." That would be a good read.

2003 Denver Municipal Election

Today's Stump reports that, "Carl 'CM' Mangiaracina, in City Council District 3, and John Cimino, in District 5, are officially on the ballot." Apparently they've successfully challenged the Election Commission ruling on their signature petitions.

2003 Denver Mayoral Election

Kudos to John Hickenlooper's campaign for providing the video for their first commercial online. I want to highlight the fact that they posted links in three formats, QuickTime, AVI, and wmp. This speaks volumes for their desire to reach all voters, not just those that run Windows. Inclusion is the name of the game and all us UNIX, Linux, and MacIntosh users vote, I think. Instructions as to viewing the video were included in e-mail from the campaign. "Go to www.HickenLooperForMayor.com and click on "Ad Clips" in the upper right-hand corner of the home page.  If you do not have the necessary software to view the ad, the software is available for download from the web site."

John Hickenlooper says that a 4% budget reduction is not enough to get the city on a sound financial footing, according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Hickenlooper has focused much more extensively on the city's budget crisis than any of the other six mayoral candidates. He has proposed an extensive program to deal with what are expected to be a tough several years for the city." The Denver Post has an article about the view of each mayoral candidate with regard to the city's budget crisis. The Post includes a nice table of responses from the candidates.

Ari Zavaras will be the second mayoral candidate to start running an television ad. He previewed his first ad to the faithful yesterday. From the article, "'We tried to emphasize the strengths I bring to the table,' said Zavaras, who has served as Denver's police chief and manager of public safety and overseen two state agencies." Here's the story about the Zavaras ad from the Denver Post.
