2003 Denver Municpal Election - DenverGov
DenverGov, the city website, has extensive coverage of the election here. They are trying to cover the election online in a very comprehensive and objective manner. Check out their coverage all you web surfers.
One issue that I think illustrates their commitment to try to reach all voters equally is their inclusion of video and sound clips in a platform neutral format. The video is presented as MPEG and the audio is in WAV format. This allows computer users that have Macintosh, UNIX, or Linux operating systems to view and listen along with those using Windows. Kudos to the DenverGov staff for adopting a philosophy of inclusion.

2003 Denver Election for Auditor
The gloves are off in the race for Auditor according to this story from the Rocky Mountain News. The issue has been raised, by Dennis Gallagher, as to how well Ed Thomas and Debbie Ortega have managed their budgets while on City Council. The subject came up at the Auditor forum on Tuesday where Ed Thomas demanded time to address the issue causing a bit of an uncomfortable time for all. Apparently Gallagher has printed allegations, in a campaign flyer, saying that Thomas and Ortega had to borrow money from other council members to cover shortfalls in their own budget. This should be fun since the three are veteran politicians. The Rocky quotes Thomas as saying, ""I've been standing up to people all my life, and I'm not going to stop now."
Here's the link to today's Rocky column, "The Stump."

2003 Denver Municipal Election
Yesterday was the deadline for candidates to turn in signature petitions to get on the ballot for May 6th. The Denver Election Commision office will now go through the petitions turned in yesterday to verify the signatures. Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Election officials must have the final field solidified by Wednesday, a day before ballot positions are drawn." The Rocky reports that Jeremy Stefanek is probably not going to make it to the ballot after collecting signatures a second time, "Stefanek said he might have violated the election procedures because he failed to have voters report their county of residence when they signed." The Denver Post is reporting the story here. They include a candidate list.

2003 Denver Mayoral Election
Ari Zavaras released his pension records and college transcripts yesterday in response to the criticism he received. The Rocky Mountain News has a short article. The Denver Post covers the story in much greater detail here. Most of the mayoral candidates have released some information on finances, academic records, or brushes with the law. Tax records from several will be forthcoming today. Pity the candidate that tries to keep something from coming out, now that they're all being so honest and forthright.
