Hacker Hits Manitoba Gov't Site New Winnipeg, Canada - A hacker broke into the Manitoba government's main Web site, www.gov.mb.ca last week, searching for student loans information. The Province's Information Protection Centre, the provincial government's computer security unit, confirms a hacker got onto the site from October 18th to 25th. The hack attack is the first time the province's Web site has been breached. The Province says the hacker accessed personal financial information from 215 students and their families who completed online application forms for the Manitoba student loan program. Authorities don't know why the hacker only searched for the student loan information.

Judge Accepts Most of Proposed Settlement in Microsoft Case. NY Times - A federal judge today approved most provisions of an antitrust settlement between the Microsoft Corporation and the Justice Department. By David Stout with Amy Harmon.
Resounding victory For Microsoft, but the judge makes Bill, and gang personally responsible for compliance. I expect the States to try again (appeal) after all they just might squeeze another million or ten out of this.
