Why Worry

There is an old saying, "I am an old man and I have had many worries in my life...most of which never came to pass." And I have always tried to remember that everytime I find myself begining to worry about some issue. For is it not really true? You hear people all the time saying that something cannot be accomplished because they worry about this or that. You worry about large and small, the great and the insignificant. But for all the worry you have ever done in your entire life, have you actually benefited from the anxiety?Thorns_Of_Worry Granted, there ARE times in which one should indeed ponder the outcome of some decision. We should attempt to make rational and balanced resolutions based upon relative and substantiated facts, but this is not of which I speak. Rather, I am more concerned with those occurrences which you have very little or absolutely no control over. Would it not be better to channel that worrisome energy into something much more productive, say...preparation, determination, or even acceptance? Certainly we all would wish for wonderful outcomes regarding all issues in our lifes, but that really is an impractical thought. Troubles DO occur. Sometimes even our best efforts are defeated. Life happens! But if you worry so much about the "thorns" in life, you may very well miss out on picking those "roses" that life has to offer!

The misfortunes hardest to bear are those which never came.-James Russell Lowell
