Luck Be A Lady Tonight

The concept of "luck" is as ancient as man's memory is long. Whether he found shelter or how well his crops grew was largely determined to be either good or bad luck. Becoming successful or failing miserably was laid firmly upon this belief. And of course, finding love, or not, has often been attributed to either of these extremes.  Does it even exist? And if so, how important is it?Wheel_Of_Fortune In order to answer those questions, I believe that one must undertand its defination: "LUCK: the supposed force behind the apparently causeless or random occurrence of an event or events; fortune; chance." Of course, there are many forces in our universe that fit this description. So many random events, many without apparent reason...that it is not difficult to believe in its existence. As for importance, well surely many people will tell you how very important it is in their lives. Buying that winning lottery ticket at the last minute, leaving the house 5 minutes late and avoiding a major accident found on the very route they take everyday, and even finding that certain someone to share the rest of your life with. But we can also blame luck for the adversities that plague us as well. Not getting the job we applied for or that flat tire when you are already late and at the worst moment. This is not to say that diligent efforts and hard work are simply a waste of time, on the contrary, I feel that these are perhaps even more important in our lives. We should rise to opportunities, seek out accomplishment, and attempt to avoid problems by perserverance. We love the unknown, and it is always fun to think that luck has also played a part of our success. Perhaps the only difference between "good luck" and "bad luck", is merely a Bell-Fruit-Gum  line away!

I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.-Thomas Jefferson
