Acceptance

On my walk today I happened to notice a small wildflower gently bowing its head under the weight of the newly fallen rain and I began to think about how nature accepts a great deal of varied situations. Heat and cold, wind and calm, dry and wet. And in those events, they have very little ability, if any, to change that to which they are subjected.Accepted_Weight And so it is in our lives. We encounter situations, people or events where we, like nature, exert very little control . Yet we constantly battle the "elements" in search of some alternative outcome and expend a great amount of energy in doing so. Sometimes so much energy, that we lose sight of the goal itself. Certainly I am not expounding the idea that we all simply give up on all effort, on the contrary, we should strive for "perfection" but realize that true "perfection" can never be realized. And we should likewise be accepting of others, their religions, thoughts, ideals, cultures, dreams and beliefs. Acceptance does not mean unqualified agreement, simply an understanding that not everyone thinks the same way we do. But if we stop to accept the "dew drops" that fall into our lives every once in awhile, then perhaps...like the wildflower we can bend rather than break.

Today's Quote:

The art of acceptance is the art of making someone who has just done you a small favor wish that he might have done you a greater one.-Russell Lynes
