Blustery Day

Last night and all day today, we have had extremely high winds. Some gusts upto 70 m.p.h. have knocked down hundreds of trees, caused power outages and have even started some fires. When it began, I watched the nearby palm trees do more than their typical tropical swaying...they actually bowed to one another in a more elaborate dance. I suppose that some of the elderly took this bowing to the extreme and could no longer rise, preferring to lay down and slumber for the rest of eternity. On my early morning commute, I encoutered so many broken limbs and branches in the road that it was rather more of a hiking expedition than a casual drive.Fallen_Tree Some trees seemed less willing to allow the wind its due and simply snapped off in an apparent defiance of the laws of nature. Perhaps a lesson to be learned, that sometimes even the strongest and most stately need to bend with the wills of the world.

Today's Quote:

Who has seen the wind? / Neither you nor I / But when the trees bow down their heads / The wind is passing by.-Christina Rossetti
